Music teachers in Great Britain are warned to wear earplugs while teaching.

Highlights:

  • The beginning trumpet player, the worst offender at 140 decibels, is sonically equivalent to a plane taking off
  • Teaching saxophone for more than 15 minutes can be hazardous to your hearing
  • Conducting an orchestra with winds, brass, and percussion may be unsafe after 19 minutes
More information for music teachers (and other music profesionals) on hearing protection is available from the Health and Safety Executive of Great Britain.
