Smokey Robinson gives a commencement address at Berklee.
Robinson and Linda Ronstadt both received honorary doctorates, leading Ronstadt to muse:
The first time that I visited Berklee, I felt that I had tumbled into Hogwarts. I think the reason for that is because the most important function that music performs for us is transcendence. And transcendence is the truest meaning of magic.
Conservatory always felt like Hogwarts to me, too–although I thought it was because we devoted so much time to things that could be heard but not seen, and we actually did have classes on waving sticks!
